Taliban Forces Strike In Afghanistan

The New York Times reports that insurgents in Afghanistan  shot down a helicopter that was carrying American troops.

American and Afghan officials say a total of 30 Americans were killed, 22 of which were Navy Seal commandos. The Taliban is claiming responsibility for the attack, according to the Times.

The incident occurred as NATO and American forces were in the initial phase of removing troops from Afghanistan. The helicopter was on an overnight mission in the Wardak Province, to the west of Kabul, Afghanistan and was most likely shot down by a rocket propelled grenade.

Ironically this occurred during Ramadan, a time of peace and self reflection for Muslims.
