The Weather Channel Released Their Hottest Cities in the U.S. by region

The Weather Channel (weather.com) released its' rankings for the hottest cities in the United States by region on Thursday, and D.C. took the number one spot for the northeast region.
D.C. isn't usually categorized as being in the northeast, especially if you talk to a New Yorker or Bostonian, but the Weather Channel considered it in the northeast for their rankings. They based their findings off of 30 year average high temperatures recorded in June, July and August.
Weather.com's senior meteorologist John Erdman provided the following interesting facts about the District.
- Average Jun-Aug high temperature: 86.2°
- Average # of 90°+ days/year: 37 days
- Average first 90°+ day of year: May 19
- Average final 90°+ day of year: Sep 12
- All-time record high: 106° (7/20/1930)
- Average # of 100°+ days/year: 1-2 days
What makes D.C. so hot? Is it all the heat coming from nightclubs every night of the week? Intense congressional debates on Capitol Hill? Do people just have bad breath here? Or is it the fact that you HAVE to have a car here because of the overall lack of accessible public transportation causing more heat from car fuel emissions?
